Law No. 6331 addressed occupational health and safety in a dedicated law for the first time, bringing every employee — public and private sector alike — within its scope.
Workplaces are grouped into hazard classes based on the nature of the work performed. The classification is based on the workplace's core activity:
- Highly Hazardous — only Class A occupational safety specialists may serve
- Hazardous — Class A and B occupational safety specialists may serve
- Less Hazardous — Class A, B, and C occupational safety specialists may serve
Under the law, every workplace must retain occupational safety professionals such as an Occupational Safety Specialist (engineers, architects, technical teachers), a Workplace Physician (doctor), and Other Health Personnel (nurse, health officer).
